Fredrick Adegboyega waxing strong at NIJ

Till date, Fred's case still remains the most controversial and most reported instance of HIV/AIDS stigmatization in Nigeria. He was dismissed from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), the apex training institution for entry level journalists in Nigeria for disclosing his HIV status, much so, in confidence to the Director of the college.

It was a prolonged battle before he got his admission reinstated. Adegboyega is back in school and doing well. However, the case kept reverberating. Recently, two journalists won prizes in the maiden Wole Soyinka Investigative Human Right Award organized by Freedom House. They won the award partly because of their objective coverage of the Adegboyega's saga.

Henry Ekechukwu of African Independent Television (AIT) and Sebastein Osifo of Daily Independent Newspaper won prizes each in the Print and Broadcast category respectively for their effort to ensure Adegboyega's re-admission.
